It is hard for me to say that after such a cold and wet winter that we could actually do with some rain! After 10 days without any measurable rainfall and the dry N/E'ly winds are really drying the ground out.
After a delayed start due to wet weather at half term we are now making good progress towards preparations for the Summer term. Half the cricket squares have now been rolled in at least 8 directions with the light roller and the heavy roller has been put to good use this week too on the squares that have had good consolidation with the lighter roller.
The running track and additional hurdle lanes have been initial marked on Rockies along with the staggered starts. The discus has also been marked. We just have the javelin to initial mark to complete the athletics field.
The concern is that if we don't get some moisture back into the cricket squares we might have to take it easy with the heavy roller to avoid cracking, but I think we are a little way from that yet.
Hopefully we may be able to mark 4 tennis courts on the Bawden/Martin artificial hockey pitch next week if everything else goes to schedule.
A hint of warmer weather is on the horizon too, that will bring some cheer to the guys and gal on the cricket rollers!!
